FIRES.

DISASTROUS" FIRE.

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan 7.

Mr Hugh Ensor's large residence on the Rakahuri Station was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday. The fire broke cut in the kitchen roof, and spread rapidly throughout the whole building. Mr Ensor was "away at Double Hill Station, in the Lake Coleridge district, superintending the shearing. Mrs Ensor was in Christchurch. Two maids and an elderly man were on the premises, and they managed to save the silver and some of the furniture. A new wing to the house was being erected at a cost of about £IOOO, and was practically completed. It was destroyed. The insurances are not available, but the damage is expected to amount -to several thousands sterling.
