THE REFERENDUM. SOLDIERS VOTES COMING IN. MELBOURNE, Dec 26. It is understood that the first batch of soldiers ’votes, representing 70,000 are substantially in favour of the Government proposals. The figures are not yet available, but one Minister forecasts that the final “No” majority will be about 100,000. SOLDIERS VOTE AGAINST CONSCRIPTION. SYDNEY, Dec 26. Contrary to expectations, the first batch of soldiers’ votes reveal a majority against conscription, “Yes” numbering 17,435, and “No” 23,760, thus increasing the “No” lead to IS?,453.
