The King’s Proctor opposed the making absolute of a decree nisi granted in June 1916, to Mrs Eliza Holland, of The King’s Proctor’s allegation was that quite soon after giving her evidence in court in support of her divorce petition she gave birth to a child. Mrs Holland admitted misconduct, and by her counsel, Mr Cox Meach, threw herself on the mercy of the court. She pleaded that her husband’s conduct was conducive to her misconduct In a pathetic letter to the King’s Proctor Mrs Holland said: “I never had any hapiness with my husband, and I have worked hard to save the money for this divorce petition. Iwas tempted and fell. The man is quite willing to marry me when I am free. My husband is living with another woman. I do hope the judge will be merciful to me for the sake of the children.” His Lordship said he would consider his decision.
