A B RITII> H RE FOR?. ALL ENEMY ATTACKS REPULSEE Recehived 10.50. LONDON, Dec 16. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We completely repulsed a local attack westward of Bulecourt. We made a successful raid northward of Bullecourt. Local fighting in the neighbourhoou of Poldershoek Chateau caused no change in the situation thereabouts. There is considerable artillery activity in the neighbourhood of Hargii court and Plesquitres, and between i Gavrelle and Lens, and at Passcheni daele. A French communique states: A German attack was repulsed In Chaume Wood. BRITISH AIRSHIP LOST. DESTROYER SUNK BY COLLISION Received 9.10. LONDON, Dec. 16. The Admiralty reports that a British airship of non-rigid type, with a crew of five, proceeded on patrol on the 11th, from an east coast base and has not returned. It is believed to have been destroyed by hostile seaplanes in the southern part of the North Sea. A second airship of similar type was forced to descend through"engine failure in Holland on the 12th.' A British destroyer was sunk on the 12th, after t collision, and two men are missing. AIR RAIDERS DOWNED LONDON, December 15 Two German aeroplanes were downed during the raid. A sixth was forced to descend owing to damage by antiaircraft guns. AMERICAN WAR COUNCIL. TO CO-OPERAT WITH ALLIES. Received 10.50. WASHINGTON, Dec 16. Mr Baker has created a Military War Council composed of high army officers ,to deal with problems of supplying forces in the field, and co-oper- 1 ation with the allies. The Council will act in conjunction with the interAllied War Council.

Abraham and Williams Ltd. report: At Palmerston North, on the 13tt inst., we had a good yarding of both cattle and sheep, and a fair attendance of buyers. Cows, all classes ; sold well, other classes of cattle were easier. Prices for sheep declined somewhat B’usiness was transacted at the following rates: Fat cows £l3 10s, fat and forward cows £lO 3s fo £lO 18s, dairy cows £lO 10s to £ll 10s, fresh conditioned cows £8 10s to £8 15s, small store cows £6 to £7 2s 6d, store heifers £6 2s 6d, tinners £3 17s to £ 10s, 2yr S.H. bulls £l3 10s, 15-month steers £8 10s, 15month heifers £5 5s to £5 10s; fat and forward shorn ewes 27/1, fat and forward shorn wethers 28/, 4 and 6th wethers 27/, mixed aged crossbred wethers 255, aged woolly store ewes 255, f.m. store shorn ewes 16s to 18s, mixed shorn hoggets 20s, cull ewes 9s, cull ewes and lambs 26/3, medium i lambs 10/11, small ditto 5/8.
