FIRST GERMAN TANK. Their experience on the Somme and in Flanders has causea the Germans to revise their opinion as to the value of tanks. They are now experimenting with an armoured tank, moving on caterpillars, and armed with one 77milllmetre gun and two machinegun®. fj-iV: < [ The German tank is fitted with a sort of beak forward to assist it in crossing trenches, and a small conning tower projects from the root. The armour comes well down over the lower parts of the machine to protect the caterpillars, which are said to be completely hidden by armbur. AMERICA’S VAST CAMP IN FRANCE The contract for the construction of the immense ordnance depot and arsenal which is to be established in France for the American forces has been awarded to the Boston firm of Stone and Webster. Payment for the work will be on the basis of cost, plus 10 per cent. It is expected that the total expenditure will be well over twenty million pounds. In connection with this construction more than 1000 miles of standard railway will be built leading to the sector of front assigned to enoral Pershing. Special engineer organisations, headed by experts frOm that company, are now in France preparing for the work. All raw materials and machinery will be sent from America.

It is learned that in arranging for a site for the overseas base, the United States obtained from the French Government a lease of a large tract of land. AMERICA’S MEDAL OF HONOUR.
