ROUMANIA ACCEPTS ARMISTICE.
An extraordinary cable message reached this journal on Sunday evening, conveying the intelligence, that Roumania had accepted an armistice with Austro-Germany. As this was fully anticipated everywhere, it will cause no Roumania came into the war as the result of a conspiracy between two autocratic peoples of so hellish a nature that no compeer can be found for it in the historical category of the most revolting episodes the world has ever had any knowledge of. At the instigation of Germany, Russia forced Roumania into the war that her people might be "destroyed, her wheat-fields and her oil wells seized to enable Germany to continue its bloody intent to take by the sword all that was held sacred by the rest of the whole world. Only Russia could -help Roumania, all the other Allies being competely cut off from rendering assistance except through Russia. Germany was allowed to overrun all the most valuable portion of the country before Russia put a man or a gun into the field to help her, and now that Russia seems determined to fall into line with her erstwhile enemies Roumania is completely isolated, not a friend on her frontiers. By standing aloof from armistice proposals after the last Russian soldier and the last Russian gun was taken from her Roumania was inviting annihilation. B'ravely and honourably this little kingdom, surrounded by powerful enemies, observed the compact entered into with the Allies, and nobly fought" while a ray of hope lasted. Roumania has succumbed because it was either that or extinction, but the day is not far distant w-seh those brave little people will again take their place among the nations of the earth. President Wilson, in Tiis message to the King of Roumania, no doubt advised the course that is now being taken, and we must not forget that he, at the same time, proiised that America would furnish help to redeem the position. President Wilson is not addicted to empty promise-making, and we may be sure that he has had no intention of raising false hopes in the minds of the Roumanian people. :i; i ~.
