TAIHAPE FIRE BRIGADE
The usual monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held last night, Captain Reidj presiding over an attendance of 10 members.
Fireman Chapman forwarded his resignation as a member owing to his absence from the district. —Resignation not accepted, and three months’ leave of absence granted. Fireman Smith, late of Dargaville Fire Brigade was admitted* a mem-1 ber of the Brigade, subject to his clearance being order. Firemen Smith was welcomed by the captain on behalf of the Brigade. A letter was received from the District Fire Brigade’s .Association, with regard to the holding of the next conference and demonstration, and stating that invitations would be received from the various brigades for functions to bo held in their districts, invitations to be in the hands of the secretary by December 15. It was unanimously decided to extend an invitation to have the conference and demonstration held in Taihape, and the secretary was directed to send same' in by due date. It was decided to credit the revenue from hire of hall to the Social Fund. Captain Reid and Foreman Mortland reported on the results of their canvassing for funds in support of the Fire Brigade, and stated that so far their efforts had resulted in the following subscriptions being collected; — Dr. Sinclair, £1; Miss- Bear, Messrs. Daws, Wong Chiug 5s each. The above subscriptions, with amount in hand, brings the total to £2B ss. The ! canvassers reported there were several other amounts to be collected.
On a vote of thanks being passed to the canvassers for their efforts, Captain Bold said it was a pleasure to canvass for the subscriptions, as their welcome had been so cordial and the response so liberal. It was decided to write to the Borough Council pointing out that the stairway and landing of the Fire Station was badly in need of repair, and asking that something should bo done in the matter. Also mat the chemical engine, for which there was now no further use should be placed in the Council's hands for disposal. Branchmau Mathie reported that the electric fire alarms were in good working order. Captain Eeid considered the time was now opportune for the Brigade to consider the question of getting an honour's board for the inscription of the names of members and exmembers of the Brigade who were fighting the Empire's battles.
It was unanimously decided that an honours board be procured and Captain Eeid and Foreman Mortland were deputed to take the necessary steps to accomplish this; also to get prices for framing the photos of interest to, and now in the possession or the Brigade. Two brigadesmen were chosen to get measured for uniforms in terms of the Borough Council’s arrangements Firemen Begg and Alsweiler were appointed for Town Hall duty for the current month. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
