MILITARY SERVICE.
THE THIRTEENTH BALLOT 1
The thirteenth ballot under the Military Service Act was drawn on Monday by the Government Statistician, under the supervision of Air S. E. McCarthy ? Stipendiary Magistrate. The 5000 names required wer e taken from Class A of the Second Division, and they will be published in the papers on Tuesday morning next. The drawings proceeded rapidly, and presented, no complications, since the whole o£ the Dominion was treated as one dis< trict. i
The men remaining in Class A after the withdrawal of the 5000 reservists drawn on Monday number rather more than 4000, and they are to be called up en bloc early in January. The date of the first ballot in Class men with one child, has not yet been: fixed. The Minister of Defence has announced that owing to the reduction of the quota a second reinforcement is to be dropped presently, and it is possible there will be an interval of more than a month after the January draft has been" called pu. In the! ordinary course of events the first? call on the Class B men would be made about the end of January.
The Gazette Extraordinary contain* ing the names of the men drawn iis Monday’s ballot will summon also 70ff Firs<oDivision men who have become? of military age or in other ways« There is a steady stream of twenty* year old youths into the First Divi* sion, and these reservists unless they choose to anticipate the inevitable by volunteering, are called up with the first draft after they reach military age. r'\
