THREE STARS "BATTLE OF THE ANCRE." Great interest is attached to the film to be screened at the Three Stars Theatre tonight entitled "The Battle of the Ancre," and a support series includes views of Australian and NewZealand troops in T3gypt, being reviewed by General Maxwell prior to embarking for what was at that time an unknown destination, but which ultimately proved to be France. The film dealing with incidents connected with the battle of the Ancre are absolutely geninuc in every respect, and one is given more than a general idea of that invention (the tank) which was responsible for so mucn"* fear in the German lines. ,* Various units are seen marching up to the "line" and charging in the direction of the German trenches, and wounded men are seen returning to the field hospital, all helping to make the picture full of absorbing interest, and so clear is the actual photography that many people claimed to have recognised relatives or friends among the actors in that stern play of life. A splendid idea Of "wallowing the mud" as described by many of the boys is shown when the horses are carrying shells to the guns in baskets slung over the back, and working their way over their knees in mud. The film is being screened under the authority of the Government, wbo Teceived the film from the British War Office to retain as an historic record of a battle made famous by the use of tanks for the first time in history. The net proceeds are being devoted to various patriotic funds through the Y.M.C.A. and picture* goers should not miss such a fine opportunity of seeing a picture which is truthfully depicting what the existing conditions were during the offensive, and does not dwell unduly On the gruesome sights. The "Battle of the Anere," will be shown to-night.
