The Admiralty reports there is no further information regarding the Heligoland Bight operations, beyond the fact that the enemy’s light crisers were chased to within 30 miles of Heligoland, and until they were under the protection of‘the battle fleet minefields. When we retired, an enemy light cruiser was seen afire; another’af machinery appeared to be damaged. An enemy mine sweeper was sunk. We had no losses, only slight damage to ships, and the casualties were slight* A German naval communique states that strong British naval forces attempted to break into the German Bight on the morning of the 16th. Our guardships located them on the line of Horn’s Reef, Velesching. An immcdN ate encounter thrust was made by our advanced forces which repulsed them easily. We had no losses.

A DISTRESSING ACCIDENT. RETURNED SOLDIER SEVERELY laKIOvI INJURED. ’'A <• AUCKLAND, this day. A discharged soldier, named James S. Jackson, who returned from the war a few weeks ago, fell off the platform of a tram car on Saturday night, and rolled under one of the wheels. The car had to be lifted before he could be released. He was conveyed to the hospital and his left leg -had to be amputated at the thigh. Jackson sustained other injuries. Previous to enlisting he was employed as a seaman in the inter-colonial trade.
