FIRES.
FIRE IN AUCKLAND. L D. NATHAN'S BUILDINGS. AUCKLAND, this day. A fire was discovered at 1 o'clock this morning in the top storey of L. D. Nathan and Co's warehouse, in High Street. It was extinguished about 2 a.m., after the top storey had been gutted. The fire did not extend downwards, but the stock, valued at many thousands of pounds, suffered extensively from water. The building an\d stock Mere insured for a large sum in various offices The damage by fire to Nathan's warehouse is very heavy < but it is impossible to give any estimate. The whole of the stock in the lower floors is being soaked with water. it includes a large quantity of perishable goods. The insurances are: — Building, £22,500; stock, £55,000; plant, £1245. The total, £78,500 ; is all in the United The fire originated in the bottling and packing department on the top floor, the origin being a mystery.
