WATERED MILK. A VENDOR FINED £IOO. J fr' TAUMARUNUI, Nov. 13 William Edward Miles, milk vendor, • trading in Taumarunui, pleaded "guilty" to selling milk 25 per cent, deficient in milk-fat and containing 6.3 per cent of added water, before Mr E. Rawson, S.M., this morning. This was Miles' fourth offence. The "health inspector (Mr. E. Calderwood) prosecuted, and Mr. J. F. Strang defended. Miles was convicted and fined £IOO. The defence was that the milk complained of was only two gallons of milk, left favier £roru .'the iprevious The bench, strongly commented on Miles' unsuitability as a milk, vendor., and advised him to give up the business. Francis Henry George Lincoln pleaded "guilty" to milk'being 14.3 deficient in milk-fat. He was convicted. and fined £lO, it being accused's secend offence. The defence was that the milk hp.d received a-severe shaking.: up in transit over the,river bed. * FATAL MISADVENTURE. MAN WALKS INTO THE SEA. WELLINGTON," this day. A ship's firemen, named Con Boyle,, was drowned in the harbour last night. He approached the barrier to "Glasgow wharf while apparently under the influence of liquor. He walked to the outer end and stepped into the harbour. Constable Claverly, who noticed the man's action, threw 7 a lifeline, to the fireman, who made an effort to grasp it. The Constable then dived into the water, and swam to< the man and brought him to the piles, from whence the man, who was now 'unconsci]pus, (was hauled ap to the wharf. A doctor was summoned, but efforts at resuscitation were- unavailing.
