STRANGE SEQUEL TO ADVERTISEMENT IN NEWSPAPER, An extraordinary story Avas told at the Thames Police Court, London, when Patrick Marshall, aged forty-two was charged with assaulting "his wife Matilda. The wife stated that shortly after war broke out the 'defendant advertised for a lost sister, and gave the name of Patrick Marshall. She answered the advertisement thinking the defendant might be her brother, whom she had not seen since he left the for America when he was two years old. She remembered having two brothers and a sister, the latter was now an inmate of Aylesbury Prison, undergoing a life sen; tence for alleged murder. At the firs! interview with the defendant she know he was not her brother, a" ho die! not correspondent with the photograph that her sister had in her possession. It was true she had been receiving 7s a week Government allowance as his sister. At a later date the defendant admitted he was only her brother's fi'iend, and asked her to marry him, which she did. "Marshall said he found out after fie married her that the prosecutrix was his sister. Her other sister, Kate, he alleged, was in prison. The case was adjourned.
