Allowing for the voluntary enlistments that have already taken placefrom these classes it is estimated they embrace fully 80,000 men. “Poilu.”— There are French people in Quebec. From among the French population in this proup to August of this year, only 6,979 recruits for the Canadian Expeditionary Forces have been obtained. There are fewer than 400,000 En-glish-speaking people in this province,., but these have furnished 20,000 rev cruits to the Canadian army duringv the same period. Sir Wilfred Laurier, the recognised leader of the French Canadians, recently stated his opinion that not a man in Quebec had any relatives in France unless as a resuit cf recent marriages.
