The Paparoa mine is idle. The cause of the men ceasing work was the misinterpretation by the manager and miners of a clause in the Coal Mines Act. A conference was held to-day. A Labour representat the Inspector of Mines were present. The mine manager states that no settlement has yet been arrived at but it is expected that a compromise is likely and that work will be resumed next week under normal conditions.
