LACK OF THE FIRM HAND.

The Americans, with whom .origin-, ated the phrase “War is Hell,” are teaching the British a few things in the policy of fighting the enemy in our midst. The American Government ha s not hesitated to confiscate t-he money, landed, and other properties .of Germans, Austrians, Turks and Bulgars, and used it to make sure of the Liberty Loan scoring a success. Yet over here in New Zealand our Government and Parliament have declared that to seize enemy property in ,our Dominion would be “going beyond the limit!” Again, Britain liberated the Sinn Fein rebels who were caught red-handed in the Easter rebellion in Dublin, in which no fewer than 412 deaths from wounds resulted; and it is the Secret Service of America that has exposed the gratitude of the Irish serpents and arrested leaders who were organising an anniversary rebellion.
