CALL TO GREEKS.
TO REPORT FOR SERVICE. SYDNEY, October 12. The announcement by Mr. S. S. Cohen, the Consul-General for Greece, that he had received a mobilisation order calling Greeks of military age to the colours, has caused some stir among the Greek community in Sydney. Mr. Cohen, who was Consul-General under the Constantine regime, but resigned a few months ago, received his rc-appointment under the new Government only a week ago. He cannot explain the exact significance of the mobilisation order. The fact, however that it was cabled suggests to him that the Government is anxious that
ail eligible, men, wherever they may be, should join the colours. A well-known Greek, who has lived in Sydney for several years, says that there is no doubt that men of the ago involved by the moblisation order, who still live in Greece, will have to report themselves for service in the army, feo far as those who have emigrated to Australia and other countries arc- concerned, the order amounts to an ap peal to their patriotism, and no doubt the Government expects them to leave all and hurry to the front. There are between 5000 and 0000 Greeks in Australia, and from 2000 to 2500 of these are in New South Wales. The majority are of military age. During the past few months many Greeks, have sought to return to Europe, but they have found it difficult W secure passage, Now that their new King has called upon them, it is expected that-a considerable number will desire to return to the Fatherland.
