SALE OF SCREEN.

At the concert last night in aid of the Nurses’ Memorial Fund, when the screen donated by Mrs. E. J. Boyd, was put up for disposal, Mr. J. G. Oldham, made a few remarks, in which he explained the objects of the concert. He said it was hardly necessary for him to outline the good and noble work done and being done by the devoted band of nurses, who -were willing to brave the journey by sea, with the attendant dangers of submarines. In spite of this if 500 nurses were called for ho was certain they would be got in a week. He paid a warns tribute to the noble army of nurses, who, with pain and agony in their hearts, but with a smile on their faces,, were doing their utmost to help and succour the fallen and afflicted and where necessary with gentle words of comfort tried hard to help the unfortunate “over the bar.” This was the first time people in Taihape had been asked to assist, and the result was most gratifying. (Applause.) Mr. Oldham then proceeded with the sale of the screen and as the various amounts were read out, commencing with one for £2O from the Eangitikei Sawmillers’ Association, the applause was frequent.
