SHOCKING FATALITY AT TOKOMARU. WELLINGON, Oct. 18. A shocking aceident occurred at Tokomar u yesterday afternoon, when the New Plymouth-Wellington express passed through. A lad of 11 years of age named Reginald Edward Thomas Pekin, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Pekin, residing at TokfiflfEiaru, was on the sta? tion platform, and crossed from there over to thb (goods fdied across the rails. On coming back he evidently did not hear the approach of the train and was struck by the engine. Dr. Putnam was telephoned for, and was quickly in attendance, but the lad 'had evidently been struck on the head, and death must have been instantaneous. Much sympathy is felt for the lad's parents. WATERED MILK. WELLINGTON, Oct. IS. E. J. Collett was fined £35 at Petone for selling milk containing 29 per cent, of added water. The Magistrate said if fines were ineffective he would imprison offenders THE SHIPPING TROUBLE. WELLINGTON, Oct. 18. Although the water front is not particularly busy at present, there was no response when calls were made thrice to-day for labour to coal a certain steamer in port. This is the second ship held up in this manner STOLEN GAS. WELLINGTON, October 18. A woman was fined £2O at Petone for stealing gas from the Borough Council. The meter had "been removed, but the defendant connected the rising pipe with the house by means of a piece of hose. When discovered four burners and a gas ring were in use. Gas was also escaping through faulty connection.
