SMOKE CONCERT

A very successful as a wind-up to the football season .was held in the Fire Brigade Hall last evening. There was a large attendance of footballers and enthusiasts,, principally members of the Pirates and Railway teams. The arrangements were very capably carried out. by Messrs J. Ryan and F. J. Me.Cormick, joint secretaries. During the-evening reference was made by various speakers to the help given by footballers and supporters to patrioticfunds, close on. £IOO being collected-' during the season. A general inyj£a : tion to all returned soldiers and soldiers on leave was availed of by a number of soldiers, whose presencewas greatly appreciated by the footballers. Mr C. O’Sullivan occupied’ the chair and conducted the proceedings in a thoroughly business-like and capable manner. The following toast list and songs were proceeded with during the evening: “The King”' Mr C. O’Sullivan, song, Mr W. Watson; “Kjndre'd Messrs S. Dunbar, W. J. Munro, and J. Ryan; song, by Maori trio; “The Navy,” Mos srs Beaton and Dunbar; song, Mr C. O’Sullivan; “The Pirates,” Messrs J. Ryan and T. McSweeney; song, Mr J. Ngatai; “Railway Team ? ” Messrs C.' Kelly, T. Welsh, F. J. McCormick; song, Mr J. Pilcher; “The Ladies,” Messrs F. Waller and L. Holtham; song Mr T. "Welsh (encored), “OurReturned Heroes,” Messrs. S. Behan. Gunner Foster and Private Gilligan; Song, Mr. D. Sutherland (encored); song, Mr P. Beattie; “The Press,”' Messrs Windsor, and Munro; recitation, Mr S, Beban; recitation, Mr G, O’Sullivan (encored); “Referees,” Messrs. J, Ryan and S. Dunbar; Maori Troupe Haka and song, the chairman, Messrs H. Beban and C,. O’Sullivan A most enjoyable function concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and God Save the King. During the evening all present stood in silence for several minutes out of respect to the memory of the “Fallen Heroes.” The accompaniments during theevening were admirably rendered by Mr. W. Lang.
