MAGISTRATE’S COURT. OHAKUNE
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1917
(Before J. G. L. Hewitt, Esq., S.M.) Police v. Ruahihi Whenua, charged on three counts with having kept liquor for sale, failing to label a parcel containing whisky and with having on the 14th August at Taihape failed to notify the name and address to the person from whom the whisky was purchased. The three charges referred to the same parcel of whisky The police also brought tnree similar charges against Rangi Taurerewa, The parcel in each case consisted of a dozen bottles of whisky. Constable Annison prosecuted and Mr. R. B. Williams (Taumarunui) defended both ascused. The eases were taken together and it was shown in evidence both accused visited Taihape on the same day when the whisky was purchased through the agency of a pakeha. Constable Annison met them at the station
on their return and seized the whisky subsequently bringing the charges against the men. The first named accused stated he was a resident of Marton and the second has some property at Maunganui-teau. His Worship inflicted a fine of £SO in each case, fourteen days being allowed Whenua to find the money, and Taurerewa two. months. Police v. Samuel Carr, charged with failing to give the name and address, at Taihape of a person ordering liquor Convicted and fined £1 costs 14s.
