Some growers have already planted areas twice over, but on account of the excessive rain the results have been very poor.
“The whole country should rise in rebellion,” loudly declared the Attor-ney-General in the House, in speaking against prohibitionist agitation. Such a statement coming from such a person with such aspirations, naturally caused a chorus of shocked “Ohs!” to arise from members. Mr. P. C. Webb, remarked that he had received three months for a much milder statement. Maturer consideration of this utterance evidently made Mr. Webb charitable, for when he spoke later in the evening he earnestly exhorted members not to encourage Mr, Herdman to make more intemperate remarks, otherwise the Minister would surely be in gaol within six months.—“N.Z, Times.”
