OUR DAY RED CROSS EFFORT
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Taihape Our Day Red Gross Effort was held last night, there being present Messrs. S. G. Peyton (in chair), Rev. W. F. Stent, and Messrs. E, McLaughlan and W. J. Munro. An appeal is to be made by circular to all residents to help towards the Special Effort similarly as was done last year, the drawing up of circular being left to Mr Stent to arrange. It was decided to ask those in authority i to close the State and Catholic schools I for the half-day on ISth October, and I that the Tradesmen’s Association ExeI cutive be written to asking that shops be closed from 11 a.m. < A collection will be taken up at the gates of the Recreation Ground instead of a fixed charge, permission for same to be obtained from His Worship I the Mayor. J The day’s proceeding will commence . with a procession, as was done last [ year. Mr. S. G Peyton was appointed marshall with Messrs W R. Emmersou and T. Shout as co-organisers. Miss Me Kinnon kindly offered to take full charge of the sweet stall and arrange for the supply of sweets. Miss ' McKinnon’s generous help was accepted with thanks. A clay pigeon match will be held, Mr. S. Beban taking charge of this event. The motor car events will be under the supervision of Mr. H. Powell, assisted by Messrs. H. O ’Callaghan, J. Evans, R. A. Davies, F. J. O’Keefe, and H. D. Bond. The collection and gates were placed under the charge of Messrs. G. Bray and C .L. Dymock, who have done excellent work in this respect at many
previous functions. Messrs. W. Kelsall and A. James were appointed to take charge of the Golf Putting and Chain Stepping. Chopping events were placed under the management of Mr. E. McLaughlin. It was decided to have motor car joy rides for children with Mr. F. Hintz in charge. The soft drinks stall was placed under the charge of Mr. T. Shute. Horse events were left to Messrs. T. Bradley and J. Tosswell to supervise. Mr. W. J. Munro was empowered to arrange for all advertising and printing.
The sheep guessing competition will be in Mr. A. J. Joblin’s care. Mr. A. B. Young, Waipapa, has donated u beautiful linen press, completely stocked with all classes of household linen, and of a total value of close on £SO. This valuable piece of furniture and contents will be raffled! A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Young for his donation and carried with acclamation. All arrangements for the concert and pictures on the night of 18th October, were left to Mr, S. G. Peyton to carry out. -
