A WONDERFUL ESCAPE.

A thrilling motor accident happened on the Taoroa Road, past Mr Wilkie’s property on Saturday night. As Mr Penning wa s driving along with himself and four others in the car, he turned his .head to close a banging door, and before he realised it his car had leaped over the fence and was somersaulting down a steep embankment. The fence was not injured in any way only that the top wire was broken. The passengers .were thrown out, but Mr Penning retained his seat until the car, overturned, sustaining a broken collar-bone. The car did not come off for it presented an appearance somewhat between the hopeless and the comic. One of the front wheels was threaded on the axle; a back wheel had gone of alone down into the gully, altogether showing that the escape of Mr Fanning and l|is f<filow-occupon(ts from fatal results was miraculous. Dr Mac Diarmid was summoned ar set Mr Fenning’s collar-bone, and this morning we are glad to be able tc state that Mr Fenning is progress’ll most favourably.
