PRICE OF SALT.

A SUDDEN INCREASE. In the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr R. McCallum asked the Minister for Industries and Commerce whether his attention had been drawn to the great increase In the price of salt during the past few days. In a note he added: —From £S per ton the price of salt had been Suddenly increased to £l2, with the threat that it will go up to £2O because of the fact that there will be none landing for some time. The reason assigned is not that the importers have had to pay more for it, but because they are taking the advantage offered to exploit the retailers and the public generally. If the extra money went to war taxation no complaint would be made by the patriotic people of the Dominion.
