SWEDEN.
SWEDISH TREACHERY. SPREAD TO MEXICO. Received 11.25. MEXICO CITY, Sept 14. Von Eckhdrdt, replying to enquiries as to the allegation that he had recommended the German Government to decorate Cronholm, the Swedish Charge d’Affaires, heatedly denied that he had recommended decoration for his services to Germany. Cronholm is no longer the Swedish Charge d’Affaires but he is still in ° 5 Mexico City, and refuses to be interviewed. Gylfe Andenberg, Cronholm’s successor, professed ignorance of the entire matter, a s also did the Mexican Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs. ANOTHER SWEDISH TRAITOR. INCRIMINATING CORRESPONDENCE INTERCEPTED. WASHINGTON, Sept. 14. The State Department has issued a statement showing that Von Eckhardt, German Ambassador at .Mexico City, recommended the German Government to decorate Cronholm, the Swedish Charge d’Affairs at Mexico City. Von Ecldiardt’s intercepted letter stated that Von Cronholm, since his arrival has shown undisguised sympathy with Germany. He is the only diplomat from whom information regarding the enemies can be obtained. He acts as intermediary in official diplomatic intercourse between me and Germany. He goes personally to the telegraph office, sometimes late at night, to dodge telegrams. I recommend a Crown Order of the second class, but so as not to excite the enemies’ suspicion, the decoration should not bo announced till after the war. CELERY IN THE SOUP. WASHINGTON, Sept. 14. Captain Celery, Argentine naval attache at Berlin, has been recalled. It is believed he was concerned in the Swedish affairs.
