RED CROSS DAY.

HIHITAHI STILL ON * The residents of Hihitahi and district have every reason to be proud of the wonderful result of their second effort, on behalf of the Red Cross, by which the sum of £lll net was raised. Hihitahi’s previous result of which until last Saturday, stood in the lead for a day” effort at tho Red Cross Shop, has now been eclipsed by the last successful effort.

Hihitahi, as everyone knows is only a minute portion, of the large, rich producing centre of Taihape, and it speaks volumes for the zeal of the promoters Arthur and Miss Luors, and also for the large hearted and liberal response of every resident in our small community. Amongst our helpers we must single out for special thanks, the generosity of Mr P. W. H. Luers who in his usual generous whole hearted, patriotism gave largely and gave again We should also like to give prominence to many of our generous supporters, but since everyone gave cheerfully according to their means the task would be a big one. Duty, however, demandsspecial thanks to Mr Peters and family of Waiouru, for their very liberal support, and to Mr Crowther, also of Waiouru. Again our thanks are due to Mr Stan Peyton for disposing of by tion various items, at enhanced values, in his usual well-known style. Also to (Mr G. Parker for kindly dissecting the mutton.

We await with keen anticipation the. entry into the arena of another “Rural Centre, n who will put our nose out of joint, giving us the incentive to go one better, thus garnering more corn for the worthy “Red Cross Mill.” In conclusion we must not forget tothank the generous public of Taihape, for buying so liberally of our wares. I trust that when we next put on the gloves they will treat us in the same liberal fashion.
