; meeting of the Committee was I last night, His Worship the Mayor A. L. Anrowsmith, presiding. he following members were pret: Messrs. Shanley, Deacon, Aidre, Neagle, Thurston, Loader, Fan- , E. McLaughlin, Munro, Evans, les, MeCormick, "Wakeman, C. Gibbs Ightson and the secretary. Apologfor unavoidable absence were rered from Messrs. Powell, Fookes ':' Davies. he secretary read the Teport of the imittee that was set up at a public jting held in the Town Hall on the h February, 1916, to go into* the tter of the formation of a branch the Returned Soldiers' Association, was decided to hand over the papers the interim secretary of the Assoeial now being formed in Taihape, as ■was thought that the information itained therein would probably prove considerable use to that Committee assisting them to form their Assotion.
She Executive Committee in their ort stated that a widow of a soldier a had been killed at Gallipoli had n granted the sum of £lO, primj to enable her to go to Auckland I visit the relations of her late husid. The Government had also been tfoacJßea with the view of getting pension increased as her present te of health does not allow her. to iertake any work. \Sx. Arrowsmith, who attended as s Society's' delegate at the lference of tne New Zealand Pattie and War Relief Societies held in dlington, on the 16th August, read ; report of the chairman presented that meeting and briefly outlined ; business that had been under disssion. Mr. James read rhe report of the turned Soldiers' Committee. This dt with eleven cases which had come der the notice of that Committee ring the past month. One applicant d been granted money to -enable him purchase cloth and make a suit and ercoat for himself. The railway fares two men had been paid and another plieant had been granted 25s for the rpose of buying blankets which he eded to take out to a job with him. itable employment had been obtainfor a returned man from Christurch. The hon. treasurer read his report lich showed that the total funds conslled by this Society now stand at 1,956 9s. Mr. C. #. Gibbs was duly elected as a smber of the Committee as reprentative of the Sawmillers' Associa>n. i A letter from the Advisory Board is read in which it was stated that e sum of £I,OOO was needed to prode entertainment for men on funugh from France, It was decided .to form the Advisory Board that if tkey ould acquaint us of the amount of vy required from this Society steps ould be taken to raise th e necessary nount as our constitution does not ;rmit grants being made for the pur)se indicated.
