Mr Meighen introduced the war time elections Act, providing on the disfranchisement of aliens of enemy origin naturalised since 1902, enfranchising the wife, mother, sisters and daughters of soldiers. The bill has been criticise! because of the illogical distinction between women with relatives, in the army and other women equally patriotic. Mr. Meighen justified the disfranchisement of aliens,' and quoted the precedent created by Australia prior to the election. NEW ZEALAND V.C. , TWO MACHINE-GUNS KNOCKED OUT. LONDON, September 5. Nine Victoria Crosses have been awarded, the recipients including Corp. Leslie Wilton Andrew, of the New Zealand infantry, for conspicuous bravery while in charge of a small party taking an enemy position. Andrew’s objective a machine-gun post which had been Hocated in an isolated building. Leading his men forward he encountered unexpectedly a machine-gun post which w T as holding up the advance of another company. Andrew immediately attacked, capturing the ma-chine-gun and killing several! of the crew'. He then continued the attack on the machine-gun post wdiich w r as the orginal objective and displayed great skill and determination, finally capturing the post and killing several of the enemy, putting to flight the remainder. Andrew’s conduct throughout was unexampled for cooil, daring, initiative and fine leadership, and was a magnificent example and a fine stimulant to his comrades. THE ROUMANIAN CAMPAIGN. LONDON, September 6. Roumanian communique.— On September 4th, between Momaia, and Varnitza and the sector Varnitza and Maraseti, artillery dispersed masses of enemy who were preparing to attack. The enemy endeavoured to break through between Varnitza and Monastivara, but were repulsed after heavy fighting.
