A STRANGE VESSEL
STRANDED AT THE BLUFF. BLUFF, This day. A strange vessel is stranded on the William Davie B a nk, outside Bluff Harbour. Soon after eight o'clock on Saturday night the harbour tug took | a pilot aboard the stranger, and as the tide was rising the vessel floated off about 10 o'clock. A little, sea was running, which kept the big ship moving and prevented her settling down in the sand. Sand having clogged her condensers the ship had to anchor in the channel till they were cleaned. It then entered the port ? berthing* at 3 o'cock on Sunday morning. The captain states the vessel is not leaking. BUSHFELLER KILLED TREE ACROSS HIS NECK. AUCKLAND, this day. Robert M. Douglas, married, engaged in felling bush at Matahuri Gorge, was found dead, with a tree across his neck and chest. FIRE AT GISBORNE. GISBORNE, this day. Waerenqaahika Hotel and Colebrook's store were destroyed by fire on Saturday night. About £SOO worth of stock from the store was saved.
