A BANKER ON THE LOAN.
The Chairman of Directors of the Bank - of New -Zealand, Mr Harold Beauchamp, interviewed on the subect of the Liberty Loan, said: : ‘The Minister for Finance, I am sure, will mot be disappointed at net being inundated with applications for the War Loan at thi s early stage of the proceedings. Very few people in the Dominion have large sums of money lying at their credit on current account with the bankers, and the majority of those who intend to subscribe —especially those who will make application for the large blocks of the loan —will have to arrange with ;heir bankers for advances by way of overdraft. Naturally, this class will not put in their applications until two or three days, probably later, before the closing of the list, namely, September 3 as bank interest, of course, will run from the date of the advance. Towards the end of next week, I quite anticipate that there will be a steady stream of applications which, ao doubt, will gladden the heart of
the Minister for Finance, From facts that have come under my notice, I am satisfied that the people of New Zealand may be relied upon to support the loan to the fullest extent of their mean s and credit.”
