THE SHEARER'S STRIKE.
The abortive meeting of farmers and shearer s held in Taihape several weeks ago with the pretence of legally fixing the rate of pay for shearers, and shed hands, has now been overridden by an arrangement arrived at before the Concilation Council, at Wei lington, on Thursday. All the conditions of the old award are embodied in the new arrangement, which will come into force on 16th September, and continue till the end of February, 1919. A resolution was adopted in the Council of the Arbitration Court to make the Wellington award a Dominion award. Following is the agreement arrived at: Rates of pay ? shearers 22s 6d per hundred and 5s per hundred war bonus (as against £1 by the old award, per hundred-. Shed hands, pressers and wool rollers £2 2s 6d per week and 10s war bonus, and when not engaged by the week Is 3d per hour and 3d per hour bonus (as against £1 15s and Is 2d per hour by the old award). .411 other shed hands, when engaged by the week, £2 per week and 10s war bonus, and when not engaged by the week Is 2d per hour and 3d war bonus (as against £1 12s 6d per week and Is Id per hour by the old awardCooks, £3 per week and 10s war bonus (as against £2 per week by the old agreement).
