WOMEN'S WORKING CLUB.

SOLDIERS’ LETTERS. The following -are further letters ' received fro mSoldiers at the Fronts and in Hospital, acknowledging receipt of parcels from the W.W. Oiub, / Taihape. France, 27/4/17—1 must once again thank y,ou ladies for the parcel I re- - ceived the <sther day, which will come in very handy, for good sox and flannells go a good way to keeping us somewhere near warm in the cold weather. I have not yet had m> experience of the firing line yet, though I have been in France how for twelve weeks <i rest camp a long way from the front. It is, nice for us boys out here to know' the ladies at home are thinking of us and didng so much for our comfort, but I should advise you all not to do too much' for us now as we might expect too much when we arrive home aagin.—Yours truly, A. Revell, 28835. 11th A.M.R., 15/3/17—1 wish to acknowledge the receipt of two parcels from your Club, dated September, 1916, and in thanking you to let you know r how greaty I appreciated the • contents. The parcels arrived just at the end or a wet day, when both blankets and clothes were wet right through, for away out here (we are not in Palestine) we are not fighting under the up-to-daie conditions prevailing in France, and don’t even have the luxury of a tent to sleep in, so tkat a change of clean, dry underclothes was a real treat. We are now r past the w r orst part of the desert we had to cross, and the country is growing more fertile as we proceed.— Tours sincerely, C. R. Fltton, Corporal

France, 22/417. I have just opened your very welcome'gift, so thought I could not do better than drop you a few lines to thank you all. Yes, these parcels come in very handy, and are much appreciated by the recipients. I used to be# in Taihape a fair amount. I usually stayed with Mr Catherwood. My address is now slightly different to what you had on the parcels. It is "Intelligence Corps. 0.1. 8.” I am in the snipers. A terrible occupation, is it not for a divinity student? —Yours sincerely, Maurice Claris, No 14190. France, 7/5/17. The last parcel you sent me has just come to hand. I have received five or six parcels now from your Club, and I thank the women again for sending- them, as they are very useful out here in France. I am sorry not to have let you know before, but it is better late than never. I can’t tell you how that little note you sent cheers one up,:—Yours truly, A. W. Frampton. Egypt. I write to acknowledge receipt of several parcels at different times, and to thank the members and to assure thd’m that their kindness and gifts have both been greatly appreciated. The parcels have always contained those articles for which at the time I have most been wishing.— sincerely, H. Speight, Lieut., Imperial Camel Corps. France, 29/4/17 Thank you very much for the parcel which I received yesterday. You have no idea of the pleasure There is in receiving and opening a parcel from home, besides \ it being so useful. I am always pleased when somebody calls out there is a parcel for me.— Yours sincerely, Douglas Collins, Royal Flying Corps. France, 10/2/17. I received your nice gift through the W.W. Club. Do,you know I somfe. times think that we have been . compensated for all we have gone through in this campaign by finding out what bricks you ladies are. It is simply superb how you have come out and put your shoulders to the wheel. We who are out here know T that you who are left behind have the harder part to bear. Mental worry is ever a heavier load than physical work.— Very truly yours, Murdoch MacAskie. i Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 4/5/7. I must thank the ladies of Taihape for the parcel which I have just received. It was very acceptable, as the contents were just what I w-anted. This is the third parcel I have received. —■ Yours faithfully, Rifleman J. G. Campbell, 24/2155.. France, 21/4'17. I received your very welcome parcel this morning, containing singlet, sox, tobacco, soap, handkerchief, etc., for which many thanks. r ; his is the third or fourth I have received from your Club from time to time Yes indeed they come in ’-'ery ■cceptable, and we need everything contained in them; extra stuff is always appreciated, especially sox. We are

in a fairly lively place here, In view of the front line, though not in any actual fighting, but are pestered a deal by “Fritzs’ ” artillery, the shells being too frequent and too close to be pleasant. We are engaged upon important, work connected with the 4ext advance hr, which is xxpcted to take place at no distant date We are working in the dark at present, on a hill, which is in full view of Fritz’s country, and therefore unpracticable in daylight. —Yours truly, A. Kloth. Sinai Peninsula. It is with thanks I acknowledge your parcel, which came to hand recently. I could not find the owner it was addressed to, I made enquiries right through, so I took the liberty of opening same. Most of the things are very acceptable in these parcels. Kind regards to all the ladies who are working so energetically for our cause, and many thanks. — P. A. Burgess, 11/1632 W.M.R. France, 6/5/17. Just a line to let you know I received two parcels from the Women’s Working Club, and to thank you very much for them. The sox, singlet, and tobacco were very welcome. I think most of the other Taihape boys who are in this battalion received their parcels also. The last parcel was dated 19/2/11—Yours sin- ! cerely H. J. Reid.
