Bombs wer e dropped on Dover and Margate, three being killed and two injured. The material damage done was slight. Two enemy machines were brought down. } LATEST WAR NEWS. RAID ON YORKSHIRE. Received 11.20. LONDON, August 22. The Press Bureau reports that enemy airships appeared on the Yorkshire coast last night. One attacked at the mouth of the Humber, dropped a number of, bombs, and went seawards. Anti-aircraft guns opened fire. There was only slight damage done, one man being injured. THE POPE’S MEDIATION. WILL BE COURTEOUSLY , DECLINED. Received 10.5. NEW YORK, August 22. The New York Times 7 Washington correspondent says it believes the Pope 7 s . offer will be rejected. All the Allies, believe the time is not ripe to accept mediation. The Entente will reply courteously .stating the reasons for declining. President Wilson is preparing a separate note. The New York World’s Paris correspondent says Le Matin urges the sending of Japanese troops to reinforce the Russians, also to relieve the garrisons in Siberia, releasing the Russian effectives for the fighting zone. AUSTRIAN REPORT. Received 9.50. LONDON, August 22. To-day’s Austrian communique states that south of Ruzza the enemy slightly drove in our troops. We maintained our positions until completely surrounded, then cut our way out between Dorsela and Wiffacyh. The attack failed on Barro. The enemy lost thousands.
