AWARUA GUN CLUB.

On Tuesday a team of shootists representing the Awarua Gun Club (Taihape) journeyed to Hunterville at the invitation of the Upper Rangitikei Gun Club, to try conclusions in a team bird V- match. The Taihape team consisted of W. McLennan (captain), J. Casey, S. G Peyton, T. Bradley, J. Gilchrist, T. Begg, J. Ozanne, C. Timbs, G. Wheeler, W. Bremner and H. Belk. Messrs. E. W. Spooner (President) and S. Beban (acting secreary) also accompanied the team. The Upper Rangitikei team comprised: Messrs. E. Meads, B. Ilston, L. Chis- - holm, C. Ilston, F. Powell I. tßartlett, S. Mills, D. Morrison, A. Chisholm and J. G. Barthop. A ver y enjoyable ; and keenly con- , tested match resulted in a win for the Awarua Gun Club by 3 points, ® The local team is to be congratulated on winning their first match, especially considering the little experience the majority of the local shootists have had in gun club matches. The members of the Awarua Gun Club will be. heard of in Gun Club matches and contests- of the future, will give a good showing in the best of com- ‘ pany.y , ' In Tuesday’s match, Mr C. Timbs (Awarua)' with 9 birds secured first prize; S. Mills (Hunterville), J. Casey and 'J. Whittle (Awarua) tied for second With 8 birds, and Ilston (Hunterville), W. McLennan (Awarua) and v H. Belk JLseven birds each. -The duties of referee were capably carried out by Mr. J. Laurie whilst Mr A. Gordon as trapper, had the best of them thinking. The general arrangements were in the capable hands of Mr. F. Petherick and left nothing to be desired. Th e Taihape visitors were entertained at lunch and dinner at the Hunterville Hotel, Mr. S. Mills. Mine Host leaving nothing undone to give the visitors a right royal time, which he managed to do to the satisfaction of % every member , of the visiting team.
