IN GERMANY.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS KAISER WARNED OF HIS COMING DOOM Who were the dead who fell in Berlin on May 17 ? (asks the London Express). Revolution, as we know, was in the air at about that time, but not a word of the massacre which occurred in the neighbourhood of the Fredrichstrasse has been allowed to escape. A corner of the veil of silence which the Potsdam officials threw over this tragedy has been lifted, however, by Baron vdh BodlschkiughSchwartzenhausel, whose name( in an abbreviated form, it is to be hoped) seems destined to go down to German posterity as that of the most indiscreet of all the Pan-Germanlacs. WARNED! Not less indiscreet, in a way, however, is the Berlin Tageblatt, which, in reproducing a new warning, addressed by Baron von 8.-S. to Beth-mann-Hollweg, exposes to the gaze of the enemy some of the gory bones of this Berlin skeleton: “B’aron von Bodelschwingh-Sch-wartzenhassel, not content with the the letter he had already favoured him with, has addressed to the Chancellor another communication, in which he concerns himself principally with the Belgian question. ‘lf we surrender Belgium then there will be . . I refrain from mentioning the missing word. Your Excellency will guess what it is. Such an action would expose the love for and the trust in the House of Hohenzollern to a trial which might prove too heavy for it to bear. May it not have to be said that it was the highest official of the State who was the cause of such a catastrophe. May the dead who fell in Berlin on May 17, and are now lying at rest in the Frederichstrasse, warn Your Excellency in time against the perils which surround you and the nation.” DOOM OF THE KAISER It remains for the many-syllabled baron’s and accomplice Baron von Gebsattel, to dot the i’s and cross the t’s of this warning. The Bergische Arbeiterstimme says:—• “Though we do so' with loathing, we cannot help quoting for the benefit of our readers a part of the impertinent letter which Baron. von Gebsattel recently addressed to the Chancellor on behalf of the Pan-Ger-man Union over which he presides. The sentiments prevailing in wide sections of our people are most bitter —they border even on despair at the thought that in the most important political circles there is a tendency to abandon the complete exploitation of the fruits of our certain victory. My conscience bids me warn Your Excellency against such an abandonment, than which no political error could be more fatal. Its inevitable and speedy consequences would be —the word must be uttered, however bitter —revolution. The monarchy will be imperilled, nay, overthrown, and with it the fate of our people will be sealed. Your Excellency, these are no idle fancies of a troubled brain, nor are they ideas of one man. Thus speak, think, and fear innumerable brave men, who stand firm at the side of the monarchy, but who are aware of what is going on among the people. Remebmer that the monarchic bases of the Empire and of the the allied states are at stake, and ward off, I conjure you, the fearful danger that hangs over us. I do not threaten; I warn.”
