DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE SUGGESTED. . DUNEDIN, August 13. At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the retiring president, Mr, George Fenwick, referred to the menace of the American Meat Trust, and suggested that a federation or defensive alliance of New Zealand freezing companies was® required. He referred to the weakness in regard to the marketing of New Zealand meal, pointing out that while the companies mastered this end of the business, they hardly touched the London end, whereas Americans kept full control ? t both ends, thus getting distributing and retail profit ( which New Zealand passed over to others. The association of freezing companies would "require ,to be kept absolutely free of suspicion of foreign association. He hoped the report of the Commission appointed to into the matter would lead to some effective steps to counteract the evil threatening the meat trade and producers!^
