GERMANY'S TROUBLES.
DISEASE RAMPANT IN GERMANY. NIGHT BURIALS ORDERED. Received 9.40 a.m. . BERNE, August 14. Hunger and typhus are scourging many parts of Germany, 600 cases and 54 deaths occurring in Mannheim. Disease is seriously afflicting Cologne, Karlsruhe, and Muhansen. The authorities diagnose it as dysentery, ordering night burials in order to quell panic. SPANISH AFFAIRS. .REVOLUTIONARY TENDENCY IN. SPAIN CALLING UP RESERVES Received 9.40 MADRID, August 14. The strike has assumed thet character of a general movement with a revolutionary tendency. Calling up the reservists has been authorised in order to prepare for emergencies. Disturbance have been reported at various uoints, though the capital is quiet. RIOTING IN SPAIN MANY PEOPLE WOUNDED Received 11.35 LONDON, August 14 Telegrams from Spain indicate that many were wounded in collisons between strikers and soldiers at Madrid
BRITISH MUNITION MAKING IMMENSE SAVINGS MADE Received 5.45 • LONDON, August 14. The Public Accounts Committee estimates that notwithstanding the rise in wages a saving of forty three millions was effected in the cost of ammunition in 1917 by the development of system whereby they can ascertain the exact cost of production.
