MISSIONARIES FOR ITALY
While the Allies are sending missions to new friends abroad, Britain should look nearer home. 'A friend of Britain who has lived for 20 yearo in Itoly points out that although hc-oks havu been written and lectures given in England to illustrate the sp'endid ! work which is being done by Italy towards winning the war, no steps iiave been taken to explain to Italy what England has done or to counteract the mischievous effects of German propaganda in Italy. Unceasing efforts arc being made to induce the Italians to believe that Italy is fighting England's battle, and that England dragged Italy into the war for hen own gain. Unhappily, these statements are belived not only by the ignorant peasants, but by many educated Italians. This insidious propaganda of the Huns is having a very deep and serious effect—and it is high time that some efforts were made to remedy it. Yet even now England is not sending a Balfour or a Lloyd George to state her case to Italy.
