Germany aims at more intensified destruction of British shipping and will shortly concentrate submarining exclusively thereon. GERMAN SUBMARINING. * * A CHANGE IN PLANS. - - ’ C p AIM. Received 8.40. LONDON, August 9. A naval correspondent says that over 50 per cent of vessels attacked by submarines are sunk despite increases in armed vessels. Failure of the German time-table is caused by a change in submarine plans, they have abandoned indiscriminate methods and the concentrating on specialised attacks, selecting vessels with large cargoes.
THE TOLL OF THE U-BOATS. THE WEEK’S FIGURES. LONDON, August 8. The Admiralty report the arrivals for the week of 2673 and the sailings as 2796. The sinkings were 21 over 1600 tons, and two under 1600 tons, Thirteen were unsuccessfully attacked. FRENCH WEEKLY REPORT. PARIS, August 9. For the week ending August sth, arrivals were 848 and sailings 934. Four vessels above 1600 tons and two below 1600 tons were sunk. Six were unsuccessfully attacked.
