OBITUARY.
GEORGE PRIOR DONNELLY
That great sportsman, pioneer, and landowner, Mr G. P. Donnelly, passed away at his residence in Hawke’s Bay this morning, having reached man’s allotted span of threescore and ten years exactly. The late Mr Donnelly arrived in New Zealand in 1863, and settled in Hawke’s Bay four years later —in 1867—where he eventually acquired large areas of land, making him one of the largest landowners in Dominion. i The deceased took great interest in public matters, and took a promim ent part in local government in his district. His last beneficent public act was the settlement of 24 returned soldiers on one of his estates at Kaiwaka, 17 miles norfh of Napier. The ISS* surviving member of his I family is Mrs Perry, who is his only 1 daughter. The late Mr Donnelly will . be missed in many circles, and many he has befriended will regret the loss of a generous man.
