POULTRY NOTES.

TAIHAPE FANCIERS’ SUCCESSES

The successes obtained by Taihape poultry fanciers have been most marked during the last season, who have won the most coveted trophies in the North Island. The Challenge Shield for Leghorns was won by Mr. Mathie, the Orpington Shield by Mr. Fraser, while Mr. J. R. Cunninghame annexed the Challenge Shield for Wyandott.es. Two championships were also secured-—by Mr. Mathie in Leghorns, and Mr. Cunninghame in Wyandottes. This list of victories would have been considerably added to had it not been for some miscreant tampering with the birds exhibited by Mr. J. R. Cunninghame. This incident was mentioned in our columns some time back and it was stated that further developments sW(J|e ( R'he cock -f erel, which woif the Wyandotte Championship at the local show, developed signs of sickness and eventually died. Mr. Cunninghame had the stomach of the bird removed and sent to Wellington, where an analysis disclosed that the bird had been poisoned: This was particularly unfortunate for Mr. Cunninghame, as the bird was considered by competent judges to be absolutely the finest bird in its class in the Dominion. The pity of it is thar the perpetrator of this unsportsmanlike outrage has not been detected, which, perhaps, is fortunate for him, as no punishment could be too drastic to a person guilty of such an action.
