TREMENDOUS DUELS .CONTINUE
LONDON, July 50. Artillery duels on the Flanders front continue with unabated fury. It is evident that the Germans arc expecting coming assaults, though Sir Douglas Haig maintains a most significant silence. An almost continuous roar of artillery is heard in the outskirts of London. Air squadrons are everywhere seeking out the German batteries, exploding ammunition dumps, bombing reinforcements and attacking German air squadrons, which sometimes comprise thirty machines. SIR DOUGLAS HASG’S REPORT. LONDON, July 30. Sir Douglas Haig reports: There was further raiding, artillery and aerial activity, particularly the last named, until it was interrupted by severe thunderstroms, wherein four British machines wore lost. Two others are missing. Sir Germans machines were downed. HEROIC FRANCE. LONDON, July 30. Mr. Lloyd George, in making a presentation to the Chairman of the Press Gallery in the House of Commans, said that on the occasion of his recent visit to Paris he found the spirit of the French better than ever. This was remarkable in view of their horrible sufferings and the fact that the enemy were still occupying their country, also because of the sense of discouragement that might have been expected from the great collapse of the Russian armies. “But,” added Mr Lloyd George, “we have received information that Russia will recover and become as formidable as ever.
