WEBB AT TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.

ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Mr. P. C. Webb, M.P.. had an enthusiastic reception at the Trades and Labour Council last night. He said for his efforts, which had averted a great coal strike, he had been rewarded by three months’ imprisonment. Ho paid a tribute to the police and gaol officials but condemned the prison regulations especially the dark cell. He criticised the quality and quantity of food. On his return to Parliament he would have something to say about the second division. Tho chairman announced that £IBSO had been collected of the two thousand required for dependents of men sent to gaol for sedition.
