FOOTBALL NOTES
On Saturday a team of footballers from Taihape journeyed to Marton to try conclusions with the local team. The Taihape team was weakened by the absence of a number of their best players, * who failed to put in an appearance to defend the hitherto unbeaten record of the Taihape players. The match was played in pouring rain, throughout, on an extremely wet and muddy ground and one lacking in the usual lines of demarcation. The Marton team were victorious by 8 points to 5, which is in no way indicates the merits of , the team. The Taihape team had the best of the play and were beaten only in the last few minutes by a misunderstanding on the part of one of the players. McSweeney scored for Taihape, the try being converted by Takarangi. The best players for Taihape were Chase and Eaton backs, whilst all the forwards played well Windsor and Murphy being most prominent. A return match is being arranged if possible to be played in Taihape at an early date when it is hoped. The local team will be able to turn the battle on their opponents.
