GERMAN SUBMARINE LOSSES.
For many weeks, obviously in compliance with orders of the censor, German newspapers have published no death notices from the submarine service from which conclusions regarding the number of submarines destroyed mght be drawn. The monthly obituary tribute of the Hamburg-Am-erican Company to its employees who have ben lost appears, however, with eight out of 12 names ascribed to the navy. Nearly all are from the mechanical personnel of the company, and it is a fair presumption that they were lost in the submarine campaign, because trained mechanics are not assigned to the forces in Flanders and surface ships are little exposed to casualties. Recently the came proportion of casualties from other sources from which the submarine J personnel is drawn would indicate that the submarine losses are inconsistent with the Admiralty assertion that the monthly loss in boats is below 10. Among the dead is Lieutenant Brinkmaeumer, who was decorated with the Iron Cross of the first and second classes, the usual tribute to a submarine commander.
