THE TOKOMARU’S MEAT.

WELLINGTON, July 26. When the Tokomaru was torpedoed by the Germans in 1914, she was carrying a donation of frozen mutton for British and Belgian relief. The meat was not issued. The High Commissioner now advises that actions were brought against the shipping company o nthe ground that the vessel was out of her course when torpedoed, and decision obtained that the company was responsible for the value of the cargo. Thereupon the High Commissioner obtained a settlement of 50 per cent (£314 8s 7d) of the value of the mutton, and this has been paid.
