Twenty-one vessels over 1600 tons and three under 1600 were sunk. Fifteen were unsuccessfully attacked. THE OTWAY. TEN LIVES LOST. LONDON, July 25. The Admiralty announces that the armed (merchant eruisejr Otway was torpedoed and sunk in northern waters. Ten were killed. The remainder were Saved. (The Otway was one of the Orient Steam Navigation Comanpy's largest and best-known vessels, and prior to. the war was engaged in the trade between England and Australia. She was a twin screw steamer of 12,077 tons, 18 knots and was built in 1909.) ITALY'S WEEKLY REPORT. BOME, July 25. Official.—For the week July 22nd, arrivals totalled 593. and departures 550, of which two steamers were sunk. GERMAN STEAMER .TORPEDOED. AMSTERDAM, July 25. A submarine torpedoed the German steamer. Nordeneya, coal-laden from
Rotterdam to Denmark. One sailor was killed. The rest were rescued. SUBMARINE BATTLE. LONDON, July 25. A Berlin official states that the British submarine C. 34 was sunk by an enemy submarine. One stoker survived and was made a prisoner. NORWEGIAN VESSEL SUNK. Received 11.20. COPENHAGEN, July 26. . The Norwegian steamer Hanseart was submarined and sunk. The crew were rescued. ON THE SEA. GERMAN STEAMERS IN SIAM. MACHINEK7 DAMAGED. Received 8.50. \ BANGKOK, July 26. "The machinery on the interned Aus-tro-German steamers "has been damaged by a small explosion. All male enemies have been interned for the duration of the war and enemy businesses wound up. * • GREECE.
GREECE'S LOST PRESTIGE. VICTORY HER ONLY HOPE. LONDON, July 25. Mr. Lloyd George and Mr. Balfour personally congratulated M. Jonnart, the Allied High Commissioner in Greece, and expressed appreciation of his work in Greece. M. Jonnart, interviewed, said that Greece, through ex-King Constahtine's bad policy, cannot hope to recover her position except by victory. A satisfactory agreement in the Balkans with Turkey and Bulgaria is not possible. We must not neglect this theatre of war.
