PROFITABLE GARDENING.
£9OO WORTH FROM AN ACRE,
How £9OO worth of foodstuff was produced from one acre of land was explained at Walton-On-Thames Tribunal recently when an exemption was granted to an expert at the local Intensive Gardens. There is no doubt that wonderful returns per acre can be obtained by careful cultivation of land planted with vegetables. For instance, a pound of Parsnip, Carrot, Swede, or similar seed costing but a few shillings, with suitable soil and good cultivation should produce about ten tons of foodstuff. This, even at one penny per pound (which is not nearly the value) equals £93 in value. Smaller areas should show even better results in proportion. It is of course important that the seeds sown should be the best procurable, strong in growth and heavy cropping selections. These are the features of Cooper’s “Seeds of Success,” which are grown as far as possible in New Zealand from their own pedigree stocks. You cannot afford to waste your ground and your time. In brief, you cannot afford to be without Cooper’s Seeds at sowing time. For instance Cooper's N. Z. grown Mangel Seed headed the list of nineteen lots of Mangels procured for trial from the principal seed merchants in all parts of the world. The crop was over 71 tons per acre. This trial was conducted by the Department of Agriculture at Houmahaki (see report in “Journal of Agriculture,” 21st August, 1916, on page 141). Nothing but the best will satisfy us. If you want to sow the “Seeds of Success,’ ’insist on having Cooper’s Seeds. Procurable from seedsmen and merchants in practically every township in New Zealand. Gl2
