FOOD TROUBLES.
THE PINCH IN DENMARK. LONDON, July 10. It is authoritatively stated that profiteering is a considerable factor in the disturbances in Holland. The German press is naturally making the most of the disturbances, with the object of stirring up trouble between Great BVltain and Holland, but it is not likely that it will meet with any success. It is officially stated at The Hague that the remarks of the Minister for Agriculture regarding the export ,of potatoes were inaccurately reproduced. The Minister said that Holland must export potatoes to Germany in order to get coal, consequently, by virtue of the agreement between Great Britain and Holland, potatoes must be permitted to go to England as well, although England was not obliged to deliver coal to Holland. Meanwhile that there are food difficulties in other European neutral countries as has been shown by the report of the Danish Government committee that the Danes can pull throug.h the winter only by the greatest economy, and by slaughtering after September 1 Half of their pigs and the least profitable cattle.
